8 Unconventional Methods To Skyrocket Your Productivity
Unconventional Ways to Be More Productive
Tired of hearing the same old productivity methods? Here are my top productivity methods that you probably have not heard of before! Warning: A few of them may seem really weird but it works wonders for me! Hopefully one of these unconventional productivity methods might help you too 🙂
My Top 8 Unconventional Productivity Hacks:
1. Get Pissed at a Task
“If you want to be productive, enjoy doing your work” I see this advice everywhere and I feel like it’s not fully accurate. Sometimes, you just don’t want to do a task. There are just some things you don’t want to do at all! Is it just me?
Honestly, in those cases, I find it easier to just admit that I don’t like the task. You don’t need to pretend like you enjoy doing it or force yourself to like it. You can’t just fake your feelings towards a task!
So, the solution is just to get pissed at the task and channel the hatred into completing the task. Since you don’t like the task, get it done and over with. When used correctly, this mindset can really help you be more productive!
2. Do Something to Make You a Little Happier
I get unmotivated easily. But I find that it usually happens when I am upset or not in the best mood. In that case, do something that will cheer you up.
For example, listen to your favourite song or treat yourself to a little chocolate. It’s actually proven that being happier boosts productivity 🙂

3. Use Noise Cancelling Earphones
Distractions are everywhere and a little silence can go a long way in helping you stay focused.
Using noise cancelling earphones are a great way to create this silence anywhere and everywhere. You don’t even need to be listening to music. Plugging them in may not cancel out noise perfectly, but the surrounding noise becomes more muffled which is still very helpful!
4. Record yourself talking about your study/work material
Recording yourself works for completing tasks such as memorising, revising for tests etc. It is fun to do something different instead of just writing notes as usual.
Bonus: You can replay the recording to listen to during commute for example. This really helps you remember and retain information much better + it’s fun!
5. Wait till the Very Last Minute
Work expands to fill the time available to complete it. If you know a task will require an hour to complete and you need it to be done by 8pm, you can try to do the task later in the day closer to the deadline. The pressure of having to complete a task by a deadline will skyrocket your productivity!
6. Work with social pressure
When there are people doing similar activities or watching you work, you are more likely to work better.
7. Have an extreme reward
“I can’t stand until I am done with this.”
“I can’t go to the toilet before I am done.”
Or you can schedule an outing with friends or book for a paid activity that you can’t cancel on. Such pressure will surely eliminate procrastination and get you to complete the task ASAP!
8. Kill distractions with browser distractions
I hate it when people say “just put all your electronic devices away to stay focused.” All my work is usually to be done on my laptop! So, I still struggle to not get distracted.
The worst part is having to watch a YouTube video relate to the work/studying you are doing. The recommended videos on the side are such a major distraction! If you relate to such problems, you will love the following browser extensions 🙂
That’s it!
Those were my top 8 methods to be SUPER productive. Remember that not every method works for everyone. We are all different in our own ways. So, experiment around and see what works best for you.
